It was not that long ago when we made a road trip to Las Vegas. I had just bought a brand new SUV and was looking for an excuse to test it out on the open highway, and perhaps take on the snowy mountain passes. Gasoline was 99 cents a gallon so it was way cheaper to drive than to fly.
Like any long road trip with the family, packing our luggage had become a fine art. Every item included in our trip, had to have a practical purpose; every piece of clothing had to be 'wash-and-wear.' Even then, it's amazing how an SUV fills up so quickly!
Like any road trip, the plan is to hit the road at sunrise; cover as many miles as possible before sunset. It wasn't long into the first leg of the journey, when the "are we there yet" began. After that, came the constant washroom breaks.
On a positive note, the scenery that unfolded along the way was great, especially on top of the mountain passes. Lunch was quick and unhealthy - fast food was always the meal of choice (more like necessity) on road trips. After 10 hours on the road, checking into a roadside motel feels great. Day One of Roadtrip!
Road trips never ever go according to plans - be ready for unplanned pitstops!
