Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. They speak idly everyone with his neighbour; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things, who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?” Psalm 12:1-4
The society in which we live in demands freedom of speech. While we are free to speak what comes to our mind; in the end it really is not free because there are consequences and a day of reckoning for careless and evil words.
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise,” says the LORD; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns. The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O LORD, you shall preserve them from this generation forever. The wicked prowl on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men. Psalm 12:5, 6 In the entertainment industry, vileness and harsh speech is passed-of as stand-up comedy; even kids resort to vulgarities because of the influence of their Hollywood “heroes.”The society in which we live in demands freedom of speech. While we are free to speak what comes to our mind; in the end it really is not free because there are consequences and a day of reckoning for careless and evil words.
Clothes may make the man of the world, but pure words define the man of God!
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
